Selena Gomez revealed she doesn’t sleep in her bedroom during the Wonder mind Mental Fitness Summit on Thursday in honor of World Mental Health Day.

The 32-year-old Only Murders In The Building star, who was recently in New York promoting her film Emilia Perez , said her bedroom was “associated” with “a really dark time.”

During the panel discussion, the actress reflected on her 2022 documentary My Mind & Me , in which she opened up about her bipolar disorder diagnosis, according to AOL .

“I’m a little bit different than my mom because I spent too much time in my bedroom, so I don’t even sleep in my bedroom anymore because I associate it with such a really dark time.”

Gomez continued, “Being anxious is so debilitating sometimes, and yeah, I didn’t want to get out of bed for years, and part of that was I wasn’t doing the work.”

“And you have to believe in yourself to do the work that will actually make you a little bit more enlightened.”

Also during the panel, Selena said: “I’m a very anxious person. It’s a bit like doomsday, and I think having a positive conversation with yourself, even though it sounds weird, really does have an impact.”

“Like before I get out of the car, and there’s gonna be a lot of noises and things — if there is, I’m not saying it’s every day — but I have to breathe.”

Gomez added, “And I have to be like, ‘This is all a gift, and maybe I’m not in the mood for this.’ [But] Every time I see someone and make them laugh, [it] makes my day, no matter how I’m feeling.”

While opening up about her mental health journey, the Wolves singer discussed having a close-knit “inner circle.”

“I don’t have a lot of people in my life, [but] I know who my inner circle is. I have to talk things out.”

“And I also have a therapist, but it’s also nice to have people around you that just listen to you.”

Selena further explained, “There’s a freedom in letting go of whatever’s holding you back and that lump in your throat.”

Gomez continued, “Sometimes anxiety is so debilitating, and yeah, I didn’t want to get out of bed for years, and part of that was not doing the work.”

Elsewhere during the panel, Gomez talked about taking a break from social media, but said she had to “stop defending myself.”

“Because I shouldn’t apologize for being honest, for saying I’m not good, and that’s not a nice thing to say.”

The Rare Beauty founder added that her mother taught her “that the noise is always going to be there.”

“But it’s about finding that moment where I physically say, ‘No, I’m a good person, I’m kind, I work really hard and I’m grateful, and I love all the little things in life,’ and I need that reminder.”

Selena admitted, however, “I’m not going to lie, it hurts a little bit. I’m definitely not one of those people who can ignore it.’

‘I’m just speaking for my generation, because it’s crazy how inhuman people can be with their words and things that they would probably never say in real life. It just hurts.’

Earlier this year in April, Gomez – who is currently in a relationship with Benny Blanco – attended the Time 100 Summit and said that taking a break from social media had been the “most rewarding gift” she’d given herself.

In January, Gomez announced she would be taking a break from Instagram. While opening up about her mental health journey, the Wolves singer discussed having a tight-knit 'inner circle'; seen in London earlier this month

She then uploaded a film featuring boyfriend Benny Blanco and two younger children. In the caption below, she wrote: “I’ve been off social media for a while. I’m focusing on what really matters.”

But a day after announcing she would be taking a break from social media, she returned to Instagram to promote a cooking video with Gordon Ramsey.

Also last Thursday, Gomez got emotional in an Instagram video when a young fan introduced her as someone who “leads generations with confidence, style and grace” and someone who inspires children like her.

She also announced that 100% of sales from her makeup brand Rare Beauty at Sephora on World Mental Health Day would benefit her Rare Impact Fund.

Selena then reflected on her mental health, noting that she tends to isolate herself — which can be “scary.”

The star held back tears as she was introduced by a young fan in the clip, which she shared in her slideshow.

Gomez also recently reflected on her mental health in an interview, and was asked what she does on a bad mental health day.

The actress, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2020, said she’ll reach out to friends and people she “trusts.”

“Sometimes it can be scary to isolate myself when I’m not feeling well. I think about all these thoughts. But being around people who make me feel good and make me feel like I can say anything always helps me,” Selena said, via Page Six.

She also noted that she does talk to her therapist during these times when she’s feeling mentally down, but she “doesn’t want to call my therapist too often,” she said.

The star also said that she enjoys talking to her younger sister Gracie, 11, because she’s “really sweet and innocent and it makes me feel really grounded.”

Gomez has been busy promoting her upcoming Spanish-language film Emilia Perez and attended the S-AFTRA A Foundation Conversations event in New York on Tuesday.

The beauty stunned in a fitted, chic blazer dress and a white shirt underneath, with a pair of black closed-toe pumps.

She took on the role of Jessie alongside other stars including Zoe Saldana, Karla Sofia Gascon, Edgar Ramirez and Adriana Paz.

The premise is: “In Mexico, a lawyer receives an unexpected offer to help a feared cartel boss retire and disappear for good by becoming the woman he’s always dreamed of. IMDB

The film was also selected as France’s entry for Best International Feature Film at the upcoming 97th Academy Awards.
