The two Yankees fans involved in the Mookie Betts incident in Game 4 of the World Series will not be allowed to return tonight.
According to the New York Post, they will have their tickets for Game 5 refunded after they tried to grab the ball from Betts’ glove when Dodgers star Gleyber Torres caught it in foul territory near the wall.
“I know when I’m in foul territory, and as soon as I did, I was like, ‘Guys, I’m getting out of here.’ I’m patrolling that wall and they know it,” Yankees season ticket holder Austin Capobianco told ESPN.
“In our environment, we always joke about the ball. Someone’s on defense, someone’s hitting the ball. We talk about it. We’re willing to do this.”
Capobianco told ESPN that he was told he would be allowed to return Wednesday night, but that is no longer the case. ESPN also reported later Wednesday that MLB had asked the Yankees to suspend Capobianco and his friend.
NFL legend Rob Gronkowski revealed Wednesday that he knows Capobianco personally and wasn’t surprised by what happened during the game.
The Yankees defeated the Dodgers 11-4 on Tuesday to keep the World Series alive, but Los Angeles still holds a commanding 3-1 lead.
The Yankees need to win in the Bronx on Wednesday. If they do, the final two games will be held Friday and Saturday nights at Dodger Stadium.
